This steel most often specified medium-carbon steel. It is used when greater strength and hardness is desired in the as-rolled condition. This respond to heat treatment, and flame and induction hardening, but is not recommended for carburizing treatment. When special practices is employed, weldability is fair. Die forging and hot upsetting of this grade is good to excellent.

Hot working:
Forging temperature range: 1230-850℃
Note: Heat to 1250 ℃. Do not forge below 850.
