1.6511 | 40NiCrMo7 |
This grade is a medium-carbon, constructional, alloy steel, can be nitrided to improve galling and wear resistance or fatigue properties. This steel cannot age hardening. Core properties of 1.6511 is limited to this which, preceding nitriding, are produced by conventional quenching and tempering. Case hardness lower than the nickel-aluminum steels may be developed, depending on prior heat treatment and nitriding cycle. 1.6511 steel is available as aircraft quality parts; forging parts; hot worked and cold finished bar, rod, and wire; and seamless mechanical tubing.
